Yamaha xj 650 pick uo coil swap

    Would a pair of 1982 yamaha xj 750 maxim pick up coils and tci unit work with a 1983 yamaha xj 650 maxim engine and wiring loom if i used the 750 tci unit ? Would i need to swap the base plate over or just tge pick up coils

    They are the same unit for both bikes so it will be a bolt on affair.

    K-moe im still awaiting your verdict on the cause an since my work hours are changing to 6am starts therea no public transport that can get to work at that time so im urgent

    I'm still awaiting photos so I can have a look at what you're describing.

    Barring that, something is bent, or a hole was wallered out and the plates got misaligned.

    the rotor should never touch the coils, ever. change the plate, coils and all. rotate the engine with a wrench and go slow to make sure the rotor doesn't hit the coils.
    pictures would be good because what you describe should never happen

    Would the coils rotor and base plate off my 82 xj 750 maxim work with the 650 motor and what tci should i use

    If you have them, give it a try.
    Electrically they should work

    Use the tci for the motor in it .
    A different one will fire it but the ignition advance might be wrong

    I know they work because ive had that 750 motor running right looks like ive got a busy sunday then
