This one maybe best directed to the site mediator here. I used to buy every bike magazine going through the era of our XJ's so I have a lot of the original magazines road testing our bikes. Will posting 30 year old published material violate laws? I can start a thread for this if there are no objections. Also, I 've been restoring an 88 FZ600 I'd like to start a thread for. It's not officially anXJ but close as it gets. Can I start this in technical chat?

There is a category here called "Other Motorcycles". Might be the spot for the fz thread. As for the articles, perhaps a private message to SnoSherriff would get his attention more quickly.

Once you can no longer buy back copies of an article or magazine you are no longer monetarily infringing on the original material. At that point as long as you aren't selling it the original publisher won't care. It is still up to the moderator. If the moderator says no, put them in Dropbox or some other file sharing service. A lot of people would like to read them.

OK I think I figured this out. Paste the following url's into your browser and the files pop up. Starting tonight I have a long term test of the XJ650 Turbo, road tests of the 550 and 700 Maxims and some Yamaha adds from the 80's. I have a huge trove of mags from the 80's and will try to post stuff every few days. Let me know if this is of any value.
Who is 1st to spot the mistake in the Fastest add?

the data specs that the mags post are not covered by copy right but the opinion stated by the author is covered by copyright.also any photos the magazine took are copyrighted

http://motoprofi.com/motospecspictures/yamaha/xj_550-1982.html lists specs of the 550

this site lists a review of the 550 and is copyright

    http://www.motorcycleclassics.com/classic-japanese-motorcycles/yamaha-xj550-seca-zmmz12mjzbea

copyrights last 60 to 80 years i forget exactly and can be longer if left to holders heirs.

will you get in trouble doubtful the copyright holder will notify the site to take it down.
just as the haynes 650/750 manual is being taken down from many sites

Trying to down load (or print for that matter) this one... https://sabercathost.com/4Dqh/XJ700_Maxim_-_Cycle_Aug_1985.pdf

Can't seem to do either! I can see the pdf and read it on the screen, but for the life of me, can't get my hands on the darn thing to save for later. I'd like to keep it with all of my other 700 stuff.

    Any thoughts?

    Update... Duh!

Scratch that.... I figured it out... When you pop the file to full screen, there are some icons in the top right for you to access the original file... There you'll see download/print buttons...

Thank you Sooooo much. Love to have original write ups from the manufacture year.

By the way... The error on the ad is the 700n/700x swap... And thank you again for these... Going to print some out larger, frame them and put them in the man cave!

Thanks for the feedback Nuch. I tried viewing them at home on a different computer than the one used to load them and they didn't come up. Since you're focused on the 700 I'll see what else I can find.

Simmy, Thank You. I was successful in downloading and printing a few now. I'm on an iMac (just an FYI). I'm definitely interested in xj700 (i'm biased... heh)... but I love all the marketing stuff no matter what the model... especially the multi-pager ones that cover the entire fleet!

Road test of 1983 750 Seca with the tour fairing and bags. Pretty rare bike, anyone have one?
Turbo comparison before the Kawi showed up.
Yamaha add showing accessories for various XJ's and an interesting article showing results from various intake mods, mostly pertaining to GS1100 but also includes 650 Seca.

    Hi again Simmy!

Just an FYI... the last batch of articles/ads are returning an error message when clicked on. "File not publicly available." At first I though the problem might be my computer, but the earlier ones you posted still work great!

Is sabercathost the only option? I would have thrown them on Amazon S3. pennies to store and serve from there.

I googled free hosting sites and the web page I saw rated it highest among the free sites.
I just checked again and all files are supposed to be public access.
Might have to try another host.

I'm confused... are you saying the content of the files (as in copyright) is the problem? Why then does sabercathost allow the earlier links to still work?

the latest files when po uploaded them chose, not public instead of all view.

my statement on copy right is about his original question and the sabercathost TOS Terms Of Service which prohibits the posting and sharing of copyrighted items

As does US and Canadian law. I'd prefer for the forum owner to not get in legal trouble.

I think that it would be correct for the OP to remove any links to copyrighted material.

Is the host responsible for the content of the forum, or is the poster? I've linked to copyrighted material in the past, but never considered liability issues. XJ CD was before my time, so I am unsure how that one played out.

OK I will end this. If anyone would like tests of any particular bike PM me and I will see what I have.
Any Yamaha advertisements I assume are still fare game.

Posts of copyrighted magazines are not allowed here. Thank you.

I know XJCD was debated in the past. I don't know how that played out but I'd rather not have to deal with any potential problems related to this. Simply it's not worth it.

@SnoSheriff can we post to the magazine that published the article's site? For example, cycle world writes an xj retrospective, could we link to that, simply directing eyes to their site? They're still getting the traffic to their page. I don't want trouble for you or us. Just wanna know what's allowed.
