    Good morning.

I have a "new" right side oil pump for my 650J to replace the existing which has a small crack.

Looking at the parts fiche, the right side cover does not indicated a gasket. This is part #2 on the CRANKCASE COVER diagram. Sorry, not permitted to post links yet

Is this correct, or does it use the same gasket as used on the left side?

Thanks in advance for the insight.

if you are talking about the crank shaft covers the left side as you sit on bike gets a gasket (where the pickup coils live) the right side does not and can be sealed with rtv .
you can put a gasket there if you want but unless your crank shaft seal is leaking you will never go in there and possibly you would want the oil to start dripping out the cover

in you pic above you are talking about part 2 with no gasket and gasket 3 on part 1

    550, thanks for the reply.

I have a small crack in on the right side, that may be leaking. I've not yet seen an actual drip, just a bit sludgy. Best scenario right now may just be to clean and degrease the area and see what comes up.

you could fill that crack with jb weld style products or rtv if it is on the right side as you sit on bike there is nothing under the cover but the crank shaft seal.

Neither one actually needs a gasket. They do keep the dust out though.

Roger that, thank you. What is the Allen type fastener below the right side cover?

I need to stop trying to diagnose and just clean the bike...

Oil passage for lower motor, part of the machining process. No need to open up as they are sealed up at factory.

I wold put a gasket or rtv on the left cover, pickup coils are in there and would hate to see water get in.
