Hey guys, I've been lurking here for a few months now, the information here is great! I recently got a '82 550 seca from my father. She has been sitting in his garage for the past 20 years. I've been working on resurrecting her since I got her, and hoping to be on the street next spring. The tank seemed to be almost all rust, but 3 days of electrolysis solved that. The carbs were bad, and I resorted to almost all new internals. After a thorough cleaning and many trips to Church, I got them all back together and looking like new again. I'm now going to work on setting the float levels and bench syncing them, but noticed one small issue. My idle speed screw seems to be too short to set a bench sync. Its completely bottomed out with not even enough room to get a sliver of paper under the butterfly.

Has this happened to anyone else before? Anyone know what the overall length and thread length of these are supposed to be? I've searched everywhere but come up short.

I can probably upload some pictures later today if anyone wants a look.

This has happend before. I suspect that somthing didn't go together correctly when you put the carbs back together. Re-check your work.

    Pics would be helpful.

Measured my screw and it's correct length. Everything looks right to me, so I took some pictures. I took off 1 and 2 to get a better view. If better angles are needed let me know.

Picture is with adjustment screw as far as it will go.

If the throttle screw is resting on the long tab the plates will be nearly full open. I never took it off but my brother worked on them years ago, he might have. I don't think he knew what he was doing, he could have put it back on incorrectly.
