Hi please can I ask for some help. I'm busy restoring my xj650 and my 750 and I'm am desperately trying to find main bearings and big end bearings. All the yamaha dealers can't help as they say they have discontinued these parts. Is there anyone that can help with advice on where I can get from as I'm trying to avoid just scrapping these two projects as they are nice bikes. Regards Ryan

Have you contacted Len? You can us the link at the top of the page, right hand side (states "click here for catalog" or XJforever), and connect with him, or start a conversation with him. He can get most parts, even ones that are not available from dealers.

^^+1 check with Len to see if he has them in stock. Have you done the math to figure out which color sizes you need?

Used or NOS. You'll have to hunt and search and get to know old people who have stashes. Sometimes they come up on Ebay.

Mow for the big question: What happened to the engine? Bearing replacement is not commonly needed. Very few XJ engines have enough hours on them to have the bearings out of spec.

Hi thanks you for your replies. The primary chains guides both broke causing the chain to rub on the oil tube. The metal fillings have scored the bearings. I don't want to chance it and cause more damage. How do I get hold of len to see if he has stock is there a email adress o I make contact with him. I'm very surprised that the agents have discontinued these parts as the bikes are very nice machines regards ryan

If you click on the link at the top right of the page you will be taken to xj4ever's catalog. You can start a conversation with him by clicking on one of the xj4ever icons next to the section titles and selecting start a conversation.

For your consideration, here are the part numbers that I found while I was researching to replace them myself (an 82 XJ750 Maxim, I believe that these are used across the XJ series but you would have to verify that):

    Rods
    4 Green 5G2-11656-30-00
    3 Brown 5G2-11656-20-00
    2 Black 5G2-11656-10-00
    1 Blue 5G2-11656-00-00

    Main (oil holes 3 CRSF 1 U.R.)
    5 Yellow 4H7-11416-41-00
    4 Green 4H7-11416-31-00
    3 Brown 4H7-11416-21-00
    2 Black 4H7-11416-11-00
    1 Blue 4H7-11416-01-00

Main (no oil holes 4 CRSF 3 U.R.)
    5 Yellow 5G2-11418-40-00
    4 Green 5G2-11418-30-00
    3 Brown 5G2-11418-20-00
    2 Black 5G2-11418-10-00
    1 Blue 5G2-11418-00-00

The mains with no oil holes were superseded at some point in between the release of these bikes and when the bearings were NLA. They were simply replaced with the ones with oil holes, so you can use those for both. It looks like these bearings were used in some of Yamaha's marine applications as well, so you might find them on some sites that cater toward that.

If you have the originals you can obtain any bearing you need. I had to obtain some odd sized ones many years ago when I fitted a racing big end into a standard crankcase. There are bearing suppliers and makers. I suggest a google search should result in a list of suppliers. Many will ship internationally. PM me if you need help with addresses.

We (collectively) have been down that road. Cost is the thing. A set of crank bearings can cost more than a used engine that's still in running condition.
