I need to change the pads on my front brakes. Are you familiar with the locating pin which goes thru the center of the brake pad, and threads into the caliper body? Guess what? - I can't get that out. Frozen inside. tried some WD and some rust buster stuff, but the allen screw head is trashed.
I'm going to get more brutal with getting this pin out, but this is in a caliper which is trashed because the bleeder screw and caliper are history, so i can experiment.

I have a replacement caliper which is in one piece but needs to be rebuilt. I expect the same problems. Any ideas on what i can soak it in to remove 20 plus years of "sitting around" ?? Anyone have any insight into this?

    TIA - Brewster

I haven't looked at where the pin is aimed, but an impact ratchet is what I have used for some screws I had that were rusted and not moving. If it's in a bad place though, you may not be able to get a straight shot to bang on it or to swing the hammer.

There should/may be a retaining pin, which holds the pad pin.

    Yep Brewster,
Had the same problem. A very carefully used EZout and PB Blaster and I got it out. Try soaking it in oil and heat it gently with a propane torch. If you hit a bump or the wall, let me know. I've gotten two of those threaded pins out and made new ones out of stainless steel.
