thats what everyone (non riders) keeps asking me.
I was telling everyone it wasn't the bikes fault of course i will continue to ride.

now I just ask them if you hit a moose with your car would you stop driving cars?

    went back to work today

The white tail deer I hit was probably not half a moose but it put the fear into me none the less. Now I am even more observant when riding. I was lucky, no real injury and little damage to the bike.

Good luck with your rehab and Good on you for getting back in the saddle!

Have come close to hitting large animals in northern BC and Alberta so far nothing bigger than 12" tall causing a few tank slappers, but no tumbles! Have had plenty of encounters with dogs and have a system for dealing with them. Me 37 , dogs 0!
So you have one thing going for you. The odds of hitting another one 1 in a million.
    So keep on riding brother:)

What is your system for dogs? My region is famous for deer hitting hazard, but I've hit 5 dogs with my pickup and only one deer during the last 20 years, one dog totally busted my radiator.

A deer hit me a few yrs ago while I was on my 1200 sportster, 2 does came down off a high bank right in front of me, the 1st one crossed right in front of me, before I could even react the 2nd one came from my left side , seen me at last second and put it's head down and rammed me in the left ankle into the engine fins. Hit me so hard but somehow also hit in the very center of the bike that it pushed me about 3 feet, right to the white line edge of the roar, any more and I would have been into the loose gravel and then steel guard rails. Believe me I did a lot of wobbling, but kept the bike up. Ankle split open at the heel and fractured, had to reach down to shift with left hand, pulled in to a gas station at 2:30 AM, took a rest and got out of the minor shock I was in, then limped the bike and me home, and a buddy of mine took me to the emergency room for stiches.
Not a lot of damage to the bike, horn ripped off and a bent shifter, small dent in tank, probably from my knee. The deer, broken neck, went back months later and took a piece of jaw bone for my collection and my victory (still have it) and still get a little skittish and careful when riding country roads at nite !

I am a moose magnet full collision in my station wagon 4 years ago. 3 partial hits last summer, in my chevy lumina may it rip

not unusal to look out my car window to see the moose standing on the yellow line smiling at me as i go by. I hate to dim my high beams

I guess in hind sight I can not tell who is smarter me or my moose friends.

its just that I love riding at night just me ,my bike , and the empty road, and all the critters that go bump in the night.

I got taken off my bike many years ago by a newfoundland dog rode by his house every weekend he would run at me to the end of his chain and spin around. one day he was not on his chain

The system took many years to perfect.
The chase urge is strong ,so to counter that the first move is to brake slightly and to go straight at the dog for just a moment and they stop running out to the road or across on intercept path.
Then bank away and accelerate. At that moment you have the advantage. Dog is stopped and has to restart and if the dog is very close at this point you extend and lock your leg and plant heel of your boot in his nose FTW.
In most cases that dog that took a run at you will not try it again if it's been punted onto its butt!

You should get a hunting license for moose, which will pretty much guarantee you won't have any more encounter's with them!

Wow that sucks! Glad you're on the mend.

And what a strange question to ask someone after an accident . . Sounds like something my judgemental aunt would say. o_O

That's for sure. . I can just picture my aunt (or my blunt as *#$& brother with no filter) asking something like that, which for them would just be a passive aggressive way of saying "well, did you learn your lesson?"

When that lady backed over my bike in October, that particular aunt said that "everyone (in cars) has these close calls with motorcycles." Uhhhh, no. I think that means you aren't paying attention!

Yeah.... Those herds of motorcycles are even worse than deer---- if one runs out in front of you, better watch out..... There'll be be a whole lot more of them right behind it.

They come out in droves whenever there is a nice day right before hibernation season.

Saw a herd of motorcycles today.......
Also had a deer run out in front of me....in my car. She was running full-bore, just had my brakes done last night---I hit them hard and dove for the shoulder.....I tagged her back thigh, she went down in the other lane--the on-coming mini-van unbelievably didn't hit her as she slid right underneath. I saw his brake lights in the rear-view mirror........and then she popped up off the road behind him and took off like a shot across the field. I don't think the van driver really understood what actually happened. I know he saw me hit her, and then she basically disappeared from his sight!!! Lol. I checked my car---big mud splotch on the fender cover, but that was all....NO damage.

The herds of motorcycles were paying more attention than the deer today------
