So as the title states i am experiencing some heavy sputtering/shuddering when my bike is under load. It starts right up and idles ok, then when the gear is engaged it either dies, or more likely will drive until about 2500 rpm's when it starts to shudder really hard. I had just redone my carb boots (bike tire method), and did my valve adjustment about a week ago, and the bike was running SO MUCH better. The only possible thing ive done since its adjusted the idle screw because it was pulling in gear a little too hard at stoplights, and also i broke an ignition point and replaced the entire stator plate and ignition points, but that was right after the valve adjustment and the bike was running great at that point.

My shop is closed today so i cannot tow it in just yet, but if i cant find a solution i will have to take it in for the first time in quite a while. Not sure what to do on this one, thanks for any help guys!

When were your carbs last cleaned and who cleaned them? Was the rack broken when cleaned?

It shouldn't cause any stuttering, but generally if you make a valve clearance adjustment it is a good idea to do a running synch. My experience revealed out of synch carbs can bring hanging high RPM's.

Stuttering is more often associated with insufficient fuel flow (bad float level, no gas, clogged carb passage, tank not venting proper, etc).

    Vacuum leak is also possible.

Clogged fuel passages are also a possability.
I see no mention of cleaning and rebuilding the carbs.

the running synch was actually scheduled to be done this week. I personally lightly cleaned the carbs, but have been in contact with hogfiddles about a REAL cleaning. By lightly clean, i mean i didn't break the rack but i did soak it and remove all of the jets and what not. I redid all of the intake gaskets and exhaust gaskets as well.

I did remember i had just put gas in the bike, and I did spill some on the tank, a little more than i would like. Do you think i got something wet with gas? The bike is at work and i will be getting it with my trailer tomorrow.

Im thinking you guys are correct and its just a clogged port in need of a real cleaning.

A light cleaning just won't do.

If you "soaked" without removing seals then your butterfly seals are probably ruined . Agree 100% with K moe ...you need a full tear down ...ALL new throttle shaft seals , new idle mixture screw seals ...to do this right means " breaking the rack" and full tear down . Xj4ever has all the parts needed . I would recommend replacing all the screws with stainless steel metric fastners. I got all new fastners at Ace hardware think I spent like 23.00$ . I also bought from xj4ever 4 new allen head carb float bowl drain screws 42.00$ they are worth the extra cost .

I'd recommend against stainless fasteners. They like to become one with aluminum.
    New fasteners, yes; stainless, no.
