While wrestling (this could take some time) with removing one of my head pipes (broken bung) to have it repaired, I've been doing a little research on exhaust system alternatives. I've been happy with the just-right sound and look of stock, and I'm not into the MAC 4-1 systems or any 4-2 systems I have found; until I stumbled upon a Seca 650 Turbo exhaust collector. It appears to be of a tri-Y (4-2-1) design: long primaries, short secondaries, dumping into a single (divided) outlet; even looks like it would fit my existing headpipes. Hmm - I had a similar setup in my dear old SAAB 99 race car and it really woke up the midrange and torque without negatively impacting the overall balance of the powerband - very tractable and produces a distinctive exhaust note to boot.
Of course, I would be forced to go to a single muffler (maybe). With the flange, easy muffling possibilities open up.
I am tempted to give this a shot.
Anyone tried this kind of setup?

This takes the exhaust only to the turbo spool. You'd still have to fabricate from this point to the muffler......and figure out your length, how/where to dust/shorten/weld, etc....

Right, that's a given. It would appear that the left-side dump dictates a left-side muffler solution.

Apparently the right side muffler on the turbo was a dummy and used for the waste gate gasses. Bet you could still split it and have a 4-1-2 type set up like on some of the new bikes with a common cat.

on my 911-X I have XJ750 head pipes feeding a Turbo collector. I custom fabbed an S-bend to match the flange of the turbo collector and the other end slips into a Supertrapp silencer, works well.
Ideally the turbo collector would exit the RH side instead of the left requiring less contortions.

With further recollection, I seem to remember a centre stand lug needed to be trimmed off (xj650rj Seca frame) for this 4-1 turbo exhaust to fit. As I'm running a sidecar I have no use for the centre stand.

If I recall correctly, the XJ650 Turbo exhaust header pipes and collector are SMALLER in diameter than the standard XJ650 models (the reduced size keeps exhaust gas speed higher, which is important in the turbo system.......).
