That'll make for an... interesting clean up! Maybe you should send them to a local garage! Lol I know they're in good hands. Can't wait for the "after" pics with that patented Hoggfiddles sparkle.

It must have been laying on it's side for a while :(

Or someone really likes eating jelly sandwiches while they work.

Ahh....texture and color indicative of aged silicone grease. Someone was a dumbass. Probably used it to hold the diaphragms in place while putting the hats on. Right idea, wrong grease (and too much of it).

Oh.....good call--that would explain a lot. I"ll look at the residue again with that in mind. that may be it! it would make me feel a whole lot better......

This rack has its full share of issue!! 2 Clogged idle jets- 1 is stripped-- fortunately was able to get it out---, 1 boogered-up mixture screw, eroded fuel valves- 1 is bent and seized, enricher dust cap that were so brittle and hard I had to burn them a bit to be able to get them off (yes, I took the plungers out before heating the caps)

BUT--everything else. Came apart well, so it'll live again.

That must be it...... Explains why it feels, smells, looks weird for jelled gas.... And why the color wasn't right, and why it wasn't hardening almost instantly upon opening---- like the typical smelly green goo does.

Speaking as one who may or may not have done this before (can't remember, it's been too long), which grease would you suggest?

The red grease that is for oil seals. And only just enough on the lip of the diaphragm to help it stay in place. Normally a person won't need any grease at all though.

Oddly enough it tastes almost like petroleum-based grease, but with a slightly tangy finish. Yes I'm being serious. No I won't tell how I know.
