I think the first question is whether or not you are allowed to own such a knife in Sweden (most U.S. States regulate or ban their posession).
If not, then most sellers will not sell you. Even if you can make the purchase, customs will likely find the knife and confiscate it before it ever gets to you unless it is legal for you to own it (my daughter does import/export paperwork. U.S. customs seizes metric shit-tons of contraband on a daily basis; I'm sure Swedish customs is no different).

Given my status as a freedom-loving American, my main concern is that you would pay for something that you would never recieve.

Just Googled this, it's from Wiki, so may or may not be 100% legit:
    Sweden[edit]
Swedish law prohibits the carrying of knives in public areas, including schools and vehicles at these areas, if the carrier intends to use the knife as a weapon in the commission of a crime. Examples of legitimate purposes include artisans who use a knife at work, soldiers in uniform carrying a knife, or normal use of a pocket knife. The same law also regulates some other objects that are made to thrust, cut, or that are otherwise intended for crime against life and health. Furthermore, objects that are "particularly" intended for crime against life and health, such as switchblades, shurikens and brass knuckles, are not permitted to be given or sold to anyone under the age of 21.[48] Carrying a weapon for self-defence does not count as a legitimate purpose.[49]

^ that ^ is why he hasn't replied, and why he asked about buying in the U.S. in the first place (I suspected as much).

I hope the OP isn't too sad when his shiny new toy gets confiscated.

Try the thumb stud on a folding Buck or Gerber, or whatever. It's only a little bit more work and mine will open just about as quickly with a the flick of the wrist.

Do they not have such knives for sale in Sweden then?
    I'm genuinely curious.

Go to a site like spyderco dot com. You will find plenty of ideas there. There isn't much need for a gravity or spring assisted blade system at the campsite. You'll do fine with a thumb opened knife, I promise.

I really like my Leatherman for camping and general use. I had a PST 2 for years, and now carry a Skeletool (pro-tip: when traveling internationally, remember to take your knife out of your day-pack and put it back into your checked luggage before going through security. Some nice Costa Rican agent has a nifty PST 2 now). Both are easily opened with one hand (the Skelitool moreso), and are much more useful than a knife alone.

For situations when I may get stuck and have to depend on a tool to keep me alive I want something that is as simple as possible. Spring assist knives can potentiall fail in ways that make them nearly useless.

A butterfly knife is another option that I'd suggest if they are a legal option for you (I think they would fall under the gravity-assist category).

As far as brands, the aforementioned Buck, Gerber, and Leatherman are quality items, as are Kershaw (love their knives), and SOG. Benchmade is another U.S. brand that is of fairly high quality, but they also have less expensive offerings that are not quite as good, so I'd ask for photos of the actual knife you'll be buying instead of a stock photo.

This link will help you find what to look for, and you can search for them on Ebay if you wish to buy there. https://www.knifecenter.com/shop/au...mentpages&utm_campaign=10-american-made-items

+1 on the two above posts.

Switchblade for camping doesn't make sense to me. I have owned a Leatherman for decades. Currently the Supertool 300. Almost always carry it with me.

I find that functionality of the knife is compromised in a multitool. I carry both when camping. Since I'm not in the city, a classic buck fixed blade on my belt is appropriate. I actually have a bit of a knife and multitool collection.

+1 on the SOG. I like the steel used on the Seal Pup. Holds an edge for a long time, even when whittling hardwood by the campfire. Doesn't mix well with whiskey, though!

I know this is a little out of the OP's way, but there's a guy a couple of miles from the eastern entrance to Algonquin Park. He handmakes knives with exotic hardwood handles. Extremely beautiful stuff. When not in use, you can frame it and hang it in the living room. If she agrees, that is...

I inherited a Winchester WW1 era bayonet and sheath in excellent condition. It hangs above fireplace next to hunting boomerang. Wife hates it, but its my mancave....
