Just bought a 1999 Vstar 1100. The price was right, and its going to handle 2-up better than the 550. I didn't trade in the xj, because trading in a bike is basically giving it away, so its still in the garage. And as much as I want to have many many bikes in my garage, I just can't do it right now. My budget is well enough to shell out for a newer bigger ride, but not well enough to avoid padding that hit by selling the older bike. So, the apocolypse rat bike is going up on craigslist this spring. If anyone on here is near rapid city SD and wants to make me a offer I'll entertain it with the xjbikes.com discount in consideration. Msg if you want deets.

I'm still gonna stick around this forum (mostly just lurking as always) because its a great community, and I still think the XJ is one of the best bikes around. If there were an xj1100 (or xs) in my area at the same price I paid for the vstar, I'd probably have that instead. I just wanted to say thanks to all of you that have given me advice and to everyone who has posted manuals/how-to's/etc because you helped me keep that 550 on the road.

And if you're ever in the black hills of SD (sturgis rally goers, heads up!) drop me a line at calcorax in the g-mails, and I'd be happy to ride with you.

Don't forget to start a new thread for the v star in "Other Motorcycles". I mean, it's still a Yamaha, right?

Shonuff, Matti. I was going to wait until I could take some nice pictures of it (everything is snow and mud here right now) but I just realized I could use the pics from the dealer. Thread coming soon!

I'm sure I will... the main reasons I bought it are because there are things I don't get to enjoy on my XJ. Like long tours with the lady.... or spending time on the road instead of in the garage ;) I was honest with myself about how much time I have to wrench on the xj before spring, and its not much. The price on the drag star was right, it was being sold by a very reputable dealership and it gets 2 wheels (which need new tires) underneath me.
