I am curious about one thing : how common is the XJ900 seca in USA ?
I don´t find a lot about them in this forum,, What i would like to know is : How does the modell from -83 run ?
I read somwhere that the handling was not so good , so Yamaha put a bigger front faring on it ?
I own one but not test driven yet: Bought it this Winter and we have snow on all the roads,,,,
I like the look of the bike with the small faring , hope the bike rides well with it,,,,,,,

I haven't noticed anything bad with handling related to the bikini fairing at speeds up to 160 km/h, and i'm not comfortable riding faster than that, so the bike runs ok for me. Even at legal speeds, it feels extremely light for a bike with a quite big engine, it gives a fun ride.

Ok, Thank you. My Comfort speed is 80 - 100 km/h .It is only when i pass other wheicles that i go faster. Top speed limit in Sweden is 120 km/h but i almost never use those roads. ( to much trafic and long straits,,,)
Looking forward to take my bike out at spring time and hit the roads !! :)

The fork mounted fairing on the 550 was he one that could sometimes cause twitchy handling at speed. The 900 was around for a loooong time, but left the U.S. market after one model year for profitably reasons.

Speed limits here are max in the 110-120 k's but most of us use that as a guide for safety of all.
Then some of us use that as a staring point to stretch the rules from time to time on open roads with little or no traffic. In BC there are hundred of miles of wide open highways that for a few minutes at a time I will wind up the bike to see what it can do.
Bc highway #1 from Hope to Cash Creek is a beautiful ride early in the morning before the trucks and motor homes clog it up. Summer time , mid June before school is out 4:30-5am , wow can you haul it through the canyon. Hundred of turns of every description and elevation changes galore
Heading up late June to go to wedding , can't wait.

Kings Highway 2/County Rd 2 winds beside the big river and down past the lake, from Quebec border to Gananoque. It's a great place to test the alertness of the Provincial police. Speeding tickets are nothing more than a tax grab, and I intend to make them work for my money. I'm not on a 900 (yet) but only cuz my wallet, my wife, my back, and my insurance agent think it's a bad idea...

My students and fellow teachers disagree. I like well enforced school speed zones.

But...motorcycle forum, so I agree to disagree.

I completely agree about not speeding in town, or when workers are present. I meant open roads. I apologize for vagueness.

Yes in town and school zones I totally agree with you. See too many soccer moms in a hurry getting kids to school are among the worst offenders.
And see many fellow contractors in a rush to jobs are also bad.

Around here, the worst drivers seem to be middle aged men in pickups. Especially a work truck. Some sense of entitlement makes them think they own the road and are free to do whatever, whenever. Pull out in front of you and drive 20 below the limit? Sure. Stop in the middle of the road and run into the corner store? Why not? Gab on the phone while driving and taking notes? Great idea! I'm working, rules don't apply to me!

    Rant ended.

I was in a hat earlier, but I removed it. Driving skills increased by 48%!
