    No kidding? Well ,I ask because the carb body looks like all chewed out around the shaft. Is that usual ?

    That's just the remnant of the old seal. It'll clean up. If the seal bore were chewed up a smear of seal retaining compound would fix it.

    K-moe wins:). It looks real bad, buts only a severely decayed seal. It lifted right out, and will be fine.

    Those carbs look like they were found under a pile of Gritty Kitty Cat Litter.
    Or left under someone's table saw.
    Or did a tour of duty in Dessert Storm.

    I assume that you aren't satisfied with po's maintenance on the prodigal Maxim. I figured they'd get a good cleaning as a matter of principle. My surprise was if they were off and apart already.

    No, she's still secure in the back of the truck. We've got a major storm bearing down on us, so she's safe under the cap. But yeah, I'll be going through the carbs and doing the valves.etc....

    The valves haven't been done since I first sold her.......and I still have my chart, so I know what's still on there :)

    Four years maybe? But she'll be back and better than ever......when I sold her, the guy didn't want all the extra stuff, so she went as a basic xj650. I have all the extras yet, so they'll go back on when I get caught up with other stuff
