I was letting a friend of mine get some riding time in on my bike before he got his up and going and he lost control and hit a wall at about 35mph. Luckily he's alright, but my front forks are bent, and wedged the tire between the headers. The rest of the bike seems to be okay (though, I'll be looking over it more extensively later).

I'd like to retain the same fork length and front end pressure of the stock 86 XJ700 forks. What other bikes used the same forks? Or does any one know where I can get another set for fairly cheap?

    Thanks.

    **EDIT**
I tried to do a search, but all I found was XJ550 people trying to swap up to 750 or 1100 forks.

    Have you tried Ebay?

forks from the maxim-X should match.

I researched at one time for matching part#´s between the Virago and the Maxim (as the fork seals fits both models= same inner tube diameter) because I have some pitting on the inner tubes.

The part#´s don´t match but if I stumble across a set of forks from a Virago I´ll give it a try.. not so sure about the outer tubes though (if holes for calibers and front fender will match - depends a.o. on the front wheel size..).

I have a set of triples from a 85 700 and an extra set of forks. The triples are ready to ship but the forks I won't have available for a few more weeks. If you need the triples, let me know.

Mercuralis, I'd back up the replacement of the forks with new steering head bearings. Cheap insurance that you don't have shot bearing races as a result of the impact.

That's an excellent suggestion Robert. Thanks. This will be the first fork swap I've done, and I wouldn't have even thought of that.

I'll look into the Virago set and see if those will work. I think I'd rather find a set of actual XJ700 forks though. Nicks info seems to imply the XJ700s were fairly unique.

capy, the Triples are essentially the steering knuckle, right? That holds the folks in place? I don't think mine is damaged. I'll pass on that for the moment. I would be interested in the forks if you still wanted to get rid of those in a few weeks. I'm not in a rush.

    Thanks for everyones input.

Does anyone have access to both an XJ700 and a twin disc Virago? I'd like to get some measurement on the forks between the two. Are the tube diameters the same? Is the travel the same? Is the sitting length the same?
