Other than taking the clutch cover off I have not heard of any way to clean the oil level window.

Better be sure it isn't over full with oil or worse oil and gas. I'm surprised that you can't use a bright light and see something.

The nickle plated plate that lets you see the oil level can become stained with sludge. The only solution is to drain the oil, remove the cluch cover, and use a solvent and s coton swab to clean off the crud. Do the same to the inner surface of the sight glass itself.

Im pretty sure that with a flashlight the oil level can be seen, but its getting time for a winter oil change I wanted yi get that window clean. I guess there is a gasket in the clutch cover, can I reuse it or need to make to make a new one? There is something to come loose as soon as I remove the cover? Thanks

If the gasket comes away cleanly you can reuse it once, otherwise you'll need a new one.
