If there are no longer any new piston rings available for your bike, or there are no oversize rings available for your bike, give this a try. I often cross-referenced rings for obsolete compressors with very good results. There are often other motors which use almost exactly the same rings as the ones you are looking for. Sometimes, there are complete sets of rings (compression, scraper, oil control) which will drop right it, or can be made to fit by slightly opening the ring grooves on a lathe, or filing the ring ends. Anyhow, for what it's worth, you can check out the Hastings catalog.

Cool! Thanks for the heads up. I'll be trying to rebuild my spare engine over the next year or so, and was wondering what I'd do if I can't locate the OEM rings.

    Thanks again-

OEM piston rings should be available still. I got some fro Yamaha for my 900 here in Australia. If we can get them then surely you should be OK in the states.

I was told not to fit oversize rings onto standard pistons so I got stock standard sizes as per the original, fitted them onto the 900's pistons and they have worked perfectly for the last 10,000kms - before I my 900 used to drink oil on the way to work. Now it no longer has adrinking problem!

Not so. Standard 900 Seca rings are NLA, as of this year, if I recall correctly. 900's were also sold a lot longer there, so it only makes sense to keep more spares available for it. File fitting rings isn't difficult, and I bet Hastings prices are a damn site cheaper than the OEM's.

Have you tried oldbikebarn on the web - I think they had rings for the 900.

900's in the States were 853cc engines. Here in Oz they were (mine is a 1985 model) 891cc.

    Best of luck.

That's the hold-up on my spare 900 Engine. Rings. I need Standard Rings but the local shop told me they weren't available.

How do you Cross-reference a Yamaha Part with a Hastings Part.
    What dimensions are needed?

    The Piston OD?

I just looked at the Yamaha Parts Site ...

According to the Parts Site ... RINGS are available ... Complete Pistons are NLA!
