Howdy guys, well I'm gearing up for riding season but these brakes have been a real headache, it seems my first carb rebuild was easier and more straightforward than this. Nonetheless we muster through and I just wanna get these brakes done. I recently did a master cylinder rebuild (new plunger, springs, seals, dust boot), and when I attached up my new brake lines I attempted to do a bleed but I never was building any pressure. I also had a leak from the front right caliper so I assumed that was why I couldn't build up any pressure. Well I got my caliper seals kit from chacal and I hooked my caliper directly to my master cylinder and still nothing, just some very very small bubbles coming from the return hole of the MC. I can push the lever completely bottom-out with zero force but I have no leaks anywhere on my lines or from the MC itself. I'm at somewhat of a loss because I'm really not sure what else I can do as I'm sure my seals are all good (looking underneath the dust boot of the MC plunger looks completely dry) and I can't seem to build any pressure.

Vacuum bleeder or large syringe and hose to backfill system should do the trick

did you clean out the little tiny hole in the brake fluid reservoir?

Get a large syringe from Tractor Supply and about a foot of clear tubing and slowly pump fluid through the bleeder valve. This is referred to as reverse bleeding. If done slowly and correctly it pushes the air up and out of the master cylinder. It took about 15 minutes for me to bleed my xj700 brakes after a total rebuild.

It's hard to beat a MityVac when you work by yourself. They're not expensive and I find I use mine a lot more often than I ever thought. Makes a lot of jobs so much easier.

Interestingly enough I just got back to this thread after hitting up my local AutoZone and picked up a mityvac for $20 (they left their sale sign up past due and gave me the sale price anyway), I will tell you all the results after I get around to using it tomorrow! Thanks guys.

Just replaced my brakelines and used a large syringe using this method. Worked great. Back on the road in a half an hour.

his problem with bleading is 2 calipers on a y brake line. making it difficult to get air out of both calipers.and lines

this link has the tried method Kmoe uses with great results
    Bleeding breaks

unless you have 2 vac bleeders it looks like a pain to do. pre fill calipers with brake fluid would speed up the process

one member put the calipers above the mc and bleed them that way. forcing the air to travel up

The only issue I had with the two calipers was that I had to go really slow on the second caliper to allow the air to move past the brake fluid already in the line and MC from bleeding the first caliper. I think the trick of the reverse bleed method is to simply go slow to allow the air to vent and not get trapped anywhere. 15 minutes and I was done.
