Spent the week riding thru hellish winds to and from work. LOL they were amazed that I took the bike!!!. Had a hell of a sandstorm. I couldnt see the sun!.But other than the smoke smell and the ashes it's not directly affecting me. However My girlfriend and I are hoping that her uncles cabin up in Green Valley Lake is still standing. Was a great place to spend my 40th b-day there earlier this year and hope to use the cabin again. If the roads are open we will head up there either on Friday or Saturday to see what help we can do for her uncle. My hopes and prayers go out to the ones that have lost everything. I couldnt imagine the mess that is down in San Diego area. So far over a MILLION people evacutated from there houses!!! Just where do these people go??

The worst part is supposedly they have caught one person on a motorcycle setting some fires in Hesperia. From what I have been told the motorcyclist was spotted setting fires from a plane. The plane followed him home and had his butt thrown in jail...... he should be drawn and quartered!!!!! From what I have read is that only a few of the 20 fires that have been burning were either from downed power lines or in the case of the Magic fire, it was started by a construction worker who was welding. Hello!!! hmm high winds and your going to weld?? Just down the freeway at Castaic lake the highest windspeed was 113 mph!!!

My sympathies to anyone affected by the bushfires in California.

We here in Victoria, Australia had a shocker of a summer last January. I was up in the country when the fires broke out and although a fair way away from the main blazes it was pretty scary getting up in the morning and seeing the XJ and the other cars covered in a fine dust and remnants of black burnt leaves floating down from the sky, carried by the strong winds. Actually had to leave (not quite evacuate) as the smoke haze got worse with the prevailing winds.

    Take care out there...

    KH

The Cops wasted a guy they caught starting another fire! They should have cuffed him to a tree and let the fire he set take care of him.

I can't possibly imagine having everything I own go up in smoke.

My heart goes out to those who have lost it all due to these Sana-Anna Fires. I hope they are able to recover and get their lives back to something close to what it was before the flames consumed everything.

I couldn't have said it better myself Rick, It's a hard situation to imagine oneself in, but my heart goes out to the people affected.

To answer your original question, Rick, I can only think of three users here off the top of my head: myself, Clairmonthood, and Robert. I'm unscathed, Robert posted earlier this morning, and Clairmonthood last posted on Monday, but I don't think his neighborhood was affected at all. There may be more, but I don't know.

(edit: checking the user listings, I find 14 users listed as being in San Diego. There may be others listed in other cities throughout the county.)

Short answer: we're fine. Plus, you know things are getting better when the local NBC station drops thier fire coverage for Wheel of Fortune.

I spent my life after college working TV News. I know EXACTLY where you are coming from with that statement!

You know what Television Programs are???
    (All of them.)

They're what the TV Networks show to keep the commercials from bumping together!!!
