This week's task involves bleeding the rear MC and its associated calipers. There are new stainless lines installed. I went over the MC including de-rusting the steel ring that mounts on top.

It appears that the sensor plug on the bottom is leaking. I knocked out the plug to see how easy it would be to just replace the plug and sensor with a bolt.

Has anyone deleted the rear MC sensor and plug?

Never tried that, Last time I just replaced the sensor. A bit pricey but does not leak now.
PM XJforever(Chacal) he has just the seals.

Thank you. That is exactly what I needed to know that this sensor can be a point of failure for leaking fluid and letting air into the system. The sensor is not what I would call an important item. You can look at the sight window to see the fluid level. At $150 for the sensor, I will try to mount a bolt in the hole with some Yamabond or Locktite and see if the system can hold pressure.

    cheers

Success. I was able to plug the hole in the bottom of the rear master cylinder.

I used a metric bolt 10mm-1.25 x 16mm. I have a stash of these bolts that are used to mount a Vetter bracket to the frame. The nut for this bolt was purchased at Lowes Home Improvement.

I smeared Yamabond 4 under the bolt head and around the hole in the MC. Then I smeared Yamabond 4 on the outside of the MC hole and on the face of the 10mm nut. The nut was snugged down with a ratchet.

The Yamabond was allowed to cure. The rear brake system was then bled with a Might Vac. Speed bleeder nipples were installed before bleeding. The bleeding process was only a few minutes with the Mighty Vac.

The goal is to be able to ride the bike this month to an inspection station for the annual inspection. It helps to have brakes.
