Hey everyone, I'm about the finish my dark knight build in the next couple of weeks hopefully. An opportunity has arisen to buy 2 more XJ1100 in pretty good shape. I'm wondering if the smaller XJ's are any easier/ cheaper to work on or I should keep on with the 1100 path and expand my herd. Thoughts ??

I have owned an XJ650, which I restored and rode it 4 years. For me, it was too small and light for freeway driving. I bought an XJ1100 and sold the XJ650. The 1100 is awesome at any speed on any road. I would not go back to the 650 unless I wanted to stop any chance of long distance driving.

On this site, I think the vast majority of participants are not owners of the XJ1100. Mlew and MNMaxims are the two 1100 participants that I have gotten most of my help from. Chacal aslo is a great resource.

I think that there are many more XJ1100 participants and owners over at xs11.com. The XJ1100 is mostly an XS1100with some subtle changes. There is more in common between an XS1100a and a an XJ1100 than between an XJ650 and an XJ1100.

If it were me, I would snag two XJ1100s in a heartbeat. If you were closer, I would go 50% with you and split the cost.

I would think that the fact of the xj1100 being only a one-year bike probably has a lot to do with it, too--

I just got my first xj1100 (project to build) and my second xj1100 ( parts bike that came along with the first) a week ago. It's probably the only one I'll have, and I'll sell of most of the extra parts once I know what I need to take off of the parts bike---- to finance the remaining missing parts

Just how long do you plan to live Dave? Sounds like you have more projects than any mortal could complete.
LOL, really wishing you a long happy life and hope I'm around to see the pics of your restored herd.

I went to see the 2 XJ1100's last night. Both are in rough shape. One's been scuffed good, somehow hit the gages and the headlight so it went down hard. The second has a massive oil leak out of the valve cover and a few cracked and or missing parts here and there. Looks like my herd will stay at 1 for now.
