I'm slowly tuning and improving my xj750 idle and low end power. After changing bars and rerouting cables a few times, cabe run is about as clean as I can get. I still get idle increase when I move the cable along the bars unless I completely slack my idle adjust at my throttle. So.. should I get carbs resyncd at a higher min idle so even with slack cable, I'm at least 750 rpm ? Then I remove the issue with cable flex when I turn tight ?
BTW I've done the cleaning, valves, vacuum checks etc.
    Thanks

How is the throttle cable run?
On the right side of the steering stem, or on the left?
    What bars did you get?

This is a cable problem, not a carb problem.

The idle speed should be at least 1050 rpm (I set mine a bit higher for easier cold-weather starting).

did you go to lower bars and a shorter cable?
you should adjust the idle to 1050 using the knob in the rear of the carbs.
then adjust the throttle cable it does want some slack in it as it should not be controlling the idle

could you put your bike in your signiture line? or refer to it as an XJ750RH (81 Seca 750)

There's the answer I needed. Yes, lower bars, but didn't change the cable. It's barely long enough as is. I HAVE been constantly adjusting idle via throttle cable.
Feeling like a #carbknob for overlooking this basic point. No wonder I've been struggling so much with movement affect of the cable on my idle. I've always had the cable too tight. TONIGHT I will fix this and confirm back.
