Hey everyone, I am new to this forum and new to my 82 650 seca. I recently went to replace the headlight with a smaller headlight. They sure cram the wires into that stock headlight. The old headlight is removed but now I am looking for a wiring diagram for the bike, I kinda got confused when reconnecting the wires back up. If anyone could help with a wiring diagram that would be great. Thanks much and ride safe.

Be ware that the original headlight is quite rare in the U.S. and worth a fair amount. Be careful with it.

I have read that they are rare, anybody have any info on how many were made in the US? Was going to cafe this out, but now I'm thinking of just keeping it original, any input?

    Yeah- keep it stock.
And for the love of everything holy - take pictures, write notes and document things before, during and after when working on the bike.

The stock headlight stands out in a sea of bikes. See below for the wiring diagram.

Thanks very much, my idea was to cafe this bike out. The more I read and here advice, I didn't know they are so rare. Any idea of how rare and how much a restored one could pull in?

I think you can get there without cutting the frame. Just avoid pods. Keep the old parts so you, or the next owner, can revert it back.

You can get whatever someone is willing to pay for a restored Seca. Some people have deep pockets . . . .
If your plan is to fix the bike up and then flip it, do NOT cafe-style it. As XJ550 said, you will get more for it as a 'vintage Yamaha' then a hacked garage rat . . . check Craigslist, everyone and their sister are selling bobbers.

And then there is this: http://www.xjbikes.com/forums/threads/good-information-on-pods-vs-airbox-thanks-sybe.113331/

The most written-about XJ is the XJ650 Seca. It was a one-year-only machine in the U.S., and everyone thaat I've ever talked to that had one regretted selling it, and would buy one in a heartbeat. The collector's market for 80's machines hasn't really taken off yet, but if history is any indicator, modifying your Seca now will make you cry in about 10 years. They already command a premium over the other XJ models; enough of a premium that restoration is a break-even prospect with a basket case that's missing peices (which is the worst starting point for a restoration).

Okay, thanks everyone. I will not be cutting the frame at all and will keep it mostly stock.
