Hey y'all, I have a 1985 maxim X, and I'm turning it into a bobber, I would like to get an aftermarket speedo and don't know what the turns are?? The one I bought says 1400rpm = 80kph, just wondering if anyone knows if that will work for the maxim??

Welcome to the forum, I too have a X. I think most the aftermarket speedo's run off the RPM from a spark plug. I am not 100% sure on this but that would make it a universal fit to any bike. Get a few more posts (5) and then lets see a pic of that bike.

Is the bike new to you or have you had it a bit. Is is the 700 or the 750?

Its a new bike to me, and it's the Canadian 750, I've been told it's been jetted and has a header kit on it because with the jets it blew the exhaust off it lol, I had to do a major overhaul of the carbs to get out some super nasty gas, my plan is a hard tail bobber, I don't have any good pics yet, it's in the basement in pieces.... but when I get some I will for sure post them.

    Hey thanks,
I read it wrong it says 60kph:1400rpm which works out to be the same as 100kph:2330rpm

Take your time and do her right. Lots of folks here to help you out with what ever you might need. A great sponsor too if you need any parts (upper right hand corner), Len will always point you in the right direction. When doing those carbs make sure you take the time and take them all the way down, brake the carbs apart to take a look at the rubber "O" rings on the fuel connectors.

Do you have a air box or running PODS?

I think you are thinking of the tachometer. The speedometer is usually run off the RPM of the front wheel.

I have the air box taken out, I want to run pods but may just build an air filter, I did tear the carbs down, cleaned them up pretty good, all that I replaced were all the float valves. I want to make it a hardtail but will see, the stock height is ridiculously high.

I'd say that the stock height is perfect. It's meant for riding acoss the country, not barhopping. But to each his own.
You should probably not try riding a dual-sport bike. Those are ridiculously high :)

    Your bike = your rules.

Trust and believe as this topic has been covered many times.
IF you have the time and money, go right ahead and build your air-box OR go directly to pods. However it is highly recommended to use the stock air box (you didn't cut it out did you?) and get the bike tuned and performing well in 'stock' condition before you switch to pods.

I'm of two minds in regards to the ride height. It's a little high for me a far as getting on and off; I'm 5'10" but I have stubby legs and I wore a hole in the seat from scraping my boot on it. Once I'm on the bike, though, I really like the height for the kind of riding I do. Maybe I need something like this installed on the bike...

^^ that ^^ is actually a thing in the scooter-modding world. Pretty dang cool seeeing a scooter that doesn't need a stand; just air it down until the frame is on the ground.

Well they are great looking bikes, but I'm not into the 4" clearance under the rear fender, so I'm going to remove the shocks and replace with solid tubes open up the back tire and install a Springer seat, the carbs have already been tuned with dynojet stage three, which blew the exhaust off (apparently) so now it has a 4 to 1 header, which I'm going to install a turn down on.There isn't much I can do with the tank because of the triple tube spine other then making a tank... and well my skills aren't there yet, so stock it stays.

The other one won't load as the file is too large. I'm sure there's some that will scoff at it but I like it the way it is. It's not perfect but it will have some things straightened out over the winter and maybe a few changes made.
