Does anyone know if exhaust pipes from an 86 XJ700XS will fit an 86 XJ700S?

According to the part #'s no. The first letters for the 700X pipes are 1AA and for the 700 are 1FG. That makes them different parts.

I just swapped pipes off a regular xj700 to an x and I had no issues whatsoever.

This is interesting... Everyone I ever asked, from Yamaha mechanics/parts guys to X riders, has told me that they won't fit... That opens up some new possibilities for me.

Were they a direct bolt-on? Headpipes, collector and mufflers?

Which is exactly why my post started with "According to the part #'s". You never what will happen until someone tries it!

I also used FGs 1 to 4 instead of AAs 1 to 4 with no alignment problems either.
