So my thermostat housing was leaking and the thermo switch was bad so might as well kill 2 birds one stone. Pull it apart and their was no thermostat in the thermostat housing. So I ordered one from auto part store. I put it in and the thermostat is rattling when the housing is moved. So from what I have read there is some type of oring or gasket that makes it stop moving. Can anyone post a picture of what it looks like. Maybe where can I get one I forgot who the part dealer is on the site, or if someone has one sitting around they wanna sell. Thanks in advance

The auto parts store sold you the wrong thermostat. You might have been given one for a Jeep XJ, or a Jaguar XJ.

The best place to get a part that is sure to fit your bike the first time is the upper right corner. Many of us may have started out looking for parts at other places, but it just ends up costing more.

Just get your bike back to original and then start to work from there. Have you look at some of the parts diagrams that they have on line? That might help you find the correct part you are looking for.

Did you get a manual yet?

I have 2 manuals the mechanics service manual which shows in 4-5 that there is a o ring that goes around the thermostat.

The xj700x owners manual doesn't really say anything about the thermostat.

I read a couple of threads on here that people stated to use the murry ultra pn 15868 thermostat from O'Reilly Auto Parts.
