    Hey everybody,

I was just wondering if I could get some advice about a rusty gas tank for my 1982 xj650 seca. I spent about a month derusting the thing with rust rescue. It took off most of the rust but there's still some stuff down at the bottom that's pretty worn in there. I replaced the petcock, attached an inline fuel filter, and cleaned out the carbs. However it's still getting clogged up after riding it for about 10 minutes and the mechanic thinks it's still the rust at the bottom of the gas tank.

He suggested replacing it but I haven't been able to find anything in my price range. Any ideas of where to look or are there other models of gas tanks that would work? I coated the inside of the gas tank of my dad's old 1973 Honda Sl100 with one of those creem things but it seemed pretty low quality and seemed to flake off and cause more problems. Could've been an application problem but I don't know.

Any advice on how to solve this problem? Any information would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Drew

This is helpful, thanks. There's a 1982 xj750 gas tank but it's also got "light rust" in it. With the amount that I've cleaned the tank already it's probably in better shape. Do you think the fish tank gravel/ dryer technique would get it good enough or would you recommend some kind of tank liner?
