I just bought this bike. First the seller listed it as a 1989 Virago 1100. Then he listed it as a 1989 XV1100. But both those are V Twin motors and this bike has an inline 4. Everything I've researched points to it being an XJ1100 but some confirmation would be wonderful. 20170708_160648.jpg 20170708_202526.jpg

As soon as I get off work I'll check. What should I be looking for? Do all xj1100s start with the same number/letters?

Awesome I'll definitely check that out as soon as I get home. I got it for $360 if you can believe it. The guy didn't know he had a gem. And it from what I can tell it's running great. Rode it the 90 miles home after I bought it.

Doesn't have a title but he showed me the paperwork he got from when he bought it at a salvage auction... So I'm hoping they did their homework and it's not stolen or anything like that.

That is a great deal......I will give you $500 right now.......you scored......hope you can get title with no problems

Interesting you took that chance riding it 90 miles back home without knowing anything about the history of this bike...go thru it with a fine tooth comb....

As tempting as $500 sounds hahaha. This isn't just my first XJ, it's my first motorcycle. And I'm thrilled about it. Especially now that I found this awesome online community.

You will learn a lot here.......the best mechanic for your motorcycle will be you......

This forum is better than motorcycle shop.....do not ever take your motorcycle to a shop.....most shops know nothing about these 35 yr old bikes.....nor do they even know how to work on them.....

You will get all the knowledge you need right here.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Just in the afternoon I've spent browsing through these forums I've learned so much. And btw, just got home, it is indeed an '82 XJ1100. The serial number starts with 10M. Thanks so much for your help, fiveofakind.

Great deal on the bike. Before going too nuts riding it, check the brake lines and the rear brake shoes. Unless the brake system has been serviced regularly, it will need a master cylinder rebuild, new brake lines, and the calipers rebuilt. The rear brake shoes could delaminate, so you definitely want to ensure they are in good shape as well.

So without a title, tomorrow starts the arduous, at least 45 day process of trying to get one then registering it. So the ride home from buying is the only riding it's going to see. (Aside from maybe quick test rides after repairs are made). From what I understand, parts like xj gas tanks, lights, rims etc. are going to be second hand if I want to keep them original. But is there a website that xj riders use for much more commonly replaced parts like brake pads and cables, spark plug wires, those kinds of things?

Sorry I snatched it out from under ya... I think the only reason I got there before anyone else was because the owner lived way out in Salem.

If it had been closer to Ogden area I still could not get it. Currently have lack of funds. Besides I have two that are running and one torn apart that is in process of getting put back together.
