I crashed my 650 Maxim for the first time today :( Thankfully neither I or the bike are really damaged, got away with some scratches and bumps on both! On about an hour long (each way) trip with a friend of mine and got caught in a freak rainstorm in the Ohio Valley, a little too much rear brake on a turn in the rain and down I went, slid across a (thank god empty) 3 way intersection and ended up in a patch of grass. Actually managed to get up and pick the bike up, and when the bit of flooding from it tipping over cleared it fired right up and is running/driving fine, got right back on the bike and finished the trip no problem :D Gotta love how tough old steel frame bikes are, other than some scratches where the bike touched the ground it's completely undamaged

Glad you and the ride are good. I visualize a super bike type lay down.... sliding on the grass and getting back up!

I was just entering a hair pin turn the other day and I passed another biker coming the opposite direction. He dropped his left hand to say hello, as bikers tend to do around here, and I returned the salute. I noticed that he wasn't giving me the usual 2 fingered peace sign but he was jabbing his finger down pointing at the road. My lane.

I quickly let off the gas just before I hit a big patch of gravel in the road. I started to skid but I was able to keep her upright and in my lane. If it wasn't for that other rider giving me the warning I would have ended up skidding or sliding into the traffic in the oncoming lane. That guy or gal probably saved my life.

This is a dangerous hobby we have but I'm not ready to give it up just yet.

That's pretty much what I did, I kinda wish my buddies gopro had been recording when it happened lol. I thought for sure either me or the bike was going to be hurt bad enough to turn around (we were only about 10 minutes from home) but incredibly the bike only had some scrapes and I messed up my left leg a bit but not enough I couldn't shift so we kept going :D

I'm currently limping around after crashing last week on my annual week-long dual-sport tour. I hit some deep sand at speed on a forest access road. My right leg looks like it went through a meat grinder, bad burn where the exhaust landed and a hematoma on my hip the size of a grapefruit. I was lucky that it didn't cut my holiday short. I was able to continue riding but a few more days out there in the bush and I think some serious infection would have set in. This was on a day where we camped several nights in the same place so the bike was without all the luggage, we pushed a little harder than normal. North of Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, really fantastic riding, even the paved sections are fantastic.

As long as your upright that what matters. Healing time has a direct correlation to your age on a bell curve.
Last boo boo I had was at 10 mph on a Ct70 broken fibula, compound fracture of ankle ( went 270 degrees around) took over a year before I could ride or play ball.
Surgeon was worried that I would have a terrible limp at worst or limited mobility. But great physio girl for 5 months after 5 in a cast.
It's better than new. Best part of this was motor vehicle insurance covered everything.

Ouch! Just shows bad things do happen when you least expect them.

Wrong gear (runners) wrong bike (front end light with 200 lb guy on it) front tire started to wash out and stupid me tried to save it instead of pulling foot out and toe of runner dug in and foot got rolled under bike when I landed.
Right gear and washing out front end on the track, slid for a while got up and continued. Have had a few get offs in almost 50 years of riding so many different bikes I can't remember them all. Most mistakes happen when your not really paying attention!

Years age had my only spill on My Buell went into an S turn at 3Am ...didn't know they had cut road and only filled it with some loose gravel and left about 2 inches uneven , I was going a little fast around it ( like I normally did ...Before this:mad:) and the next thing I knew I'm down ...my helmet was missing a chunk on the right temple and it looked like it had been put on a grinder. My jacket had a small tear, gloves had 2 divits and this is where my knuckles cane thru and my left knee felt like jello . I was more worried about my bike:rolleyes: Lucky I guess mostly scratches fixed it ... I walked away with little damage to myself as well . I've been riding since I was 14 and have had some close calls , but it caught up with me . Now I'm glad I listened to my Dad about riding anything you want just wear a helmet !!!! Good advise from my Dad I still head to this day . I'm glad that you walked away from your spill , bikes can be fixed or replaced ...you cannot be replaced !!!!
