I have a 1983 XJ900 but the engine is a 58l 891cc circa 1986. When I bought the thing it ran spluttery and popped back a lot. Have opened up the carbs and they are a mismatch of parts. 3 float bowls are identical and 1 is different. Pots 1 & 4 when I raise the slides manualy, they drop back down instantly but 2 & 3 when I raise the slides and let go, they take about 3 to 4 seconds to drop back so when the engine is running, it keeps revving through the gears so anybody with a set of Mikuni BS36 carbs for an 86 xj900 model 58L please get in touch asap. Cash waiting for the right carbs

If the float is the only mismatch you may be better off just rebuilding what you have. The slide bores can be polished to pass the "clunk" test and other parts replaced to get those in perfect working order. If you find another set they would also likely need to be reconditioned.

And some other reading that covers so much about these older bikes to recondition them and bring them back to a reliable and safe machine.

And this link that takes you to all of Chacal's write-up including parts catalogs and other technical articles, or just click the link in the upper right corner.

Welcome to the site and know there are lots of members here willing to help out so if you go the rebuild route just ask questions as needed.

I have a set for sale but they are off the earlier 853 motor.
I cleaned them before I knew about the church process so I did not break the rack. They should be broken all the way down and new throttle shaft seals and fuel supply o-rings installed.
They have a Sigma-6 jet kit installed, the throttle slides are drilled larger and the diaphragm spring clipped 1/2 a coil. This was the recommended stage 3 set up.
Let me know if you're interested (or anyone else FTM) with a PM.

Look on eBay in England/Euroland, those BS36 carbs are the same, jetting may be slightly different but that can be easily swapped.
