I read this headline today...I also read that Holland is doing same and this includes motorcyles...maybe our european friends can update if this is true. For once I hope it is FAKE news. If this effects new cars then probably bikes are included. Electric bikes are just not the same...what would Harley riders do without LOUD pipes ??????? Maybe hook up a loud speaker with a recording?

Ummm... I'm not gonna get worked up by something that is an idea that isn't even slated for Another 23 years........by then, I'll probably be driving either an electric wheel chair, or a jazzy chair.

They are supposed to phase out all gas engines 10 years after that

Sounds like a lot of restored bikes for sale to me :)

And Red Barchetta becomes a true story...

    "... the motor law..."

Red Barchetta (for me) - every time I hear it, the lyrics paint such a vivid picture, truly a most excellent pairing of music and lyrics. It becomes a movie in my head.

It was when I discovered that Neil writes the lyrics AND he was an author was when I started reading his books.

Harley actually made an electric motorcycle prototype. It was too quiet, so they sent it back to the engineers. Eventually, they wound up making the synchros in the gearbox whine more so you could hear it coming. I believe there is a company called Zero or something in California that makes electric motorbikes. I'd love one, the torque is almost instantaneous!

Without having studied the exact proposals, what I know is:
    > UK and France are to ban selling new cars and vans that are only powered by a petrol engine by 2040. Hybrid vehicles are still allowed.
    > Norway has decided to stop new petrol powered vehicle (including HGVs) sales by 2025.
    > Volvo, Swedisch car manufacturer, has decide to stop developing new fuel only vehicles by 2019.

The Netherlands/Holland are not that progressive; nothing announced yet.

It seems in recent years that the Netherlands have become more and more conservative.

After driving from Pierre, SD to Wall, SD this weekend, with only 1 gas station and 1 town in 120 miles, not sure the Midwest/Prairie states and the distances are ready for non hybrid electrics. The pickup next to me at the gas station was owned by a rancher. He had a huge auxiliary tank. I asked about his ranch. I would not have been able to drive my XJ from town to his ranch and back on a single tank of gas.

Who wants to drive 60 -100 miles, wait several hours to charge, then drive another 60-100 miles. The current 5 hour, 400 mile trip across SD would take several days!

Yes, you heard me right, 5 hours, 400 miles at 80 mph legal speed limit.

Yep, that's what they're telling us. France has also said the same.
The whole infrastructure is going to have to be updated if they are serious. Charging stations the size of football pitches come to mind. I've heard that HGV's, buses and farm vehicle will be exempt.
Then there's the environmental impact of digging up the ground for the resources to see it all through. Blah blah blah blah blah...
I'll be either past it, suffering from dementia or dead at age 55 now. Oh well, next hair-brained idea please thank you.

The only flaw with electric motorcycles at this time is range. They are in every way (aside from aurally) equal to a gas-powered machine.
Pike's Peak 2016, second place overall with a time of 10:17.813
To put that in perspective, only 10 motorcyclists have ever climbed the peak in under 10 minutes (including this rider, on a different machine), so this bike is not far from meeting that mark.

We use hydrogen powered fuel cells to run the electric forklifts at my work. It wouldn't take too much to set the infrastructure up for this, simply convert gas stations to hydrogen. Only byproduct from our machines is pure water.
