I am not much of a writer so bare with me please... So I came across this sport fairing awhile ago. It was beat up, but repairable. It also came with a rubber gasket for the lens, i thought. My friend Hogfiddle's (Dave) came across the lens i was looking for at reasonable price. Dave shipped the lens to me. To disappointment it would not fit. So many photo's and texts and calls. We discovered the rubber gasket that came with my sport fairing was not designed to hold the glass. Dave sent me the gasket he had and perfect fit. Was there a option for it to come without the glass??
    I have attached a few pics, i think :)

The way the fairing looked when I bought it.

I've seen them both with, and without the glass. I'm not sure if it was optional or not, but I do recall seeing one without the glass in the late 80's.
