    I contacted an XJ owner when I saw his bike on the internet with 900 Diversion clocks fitted. Don't know if you would want these on your bike but I prefer them to the originals, mine are destroyed anyway by a motorist when he hit the back on my bike at a roundabout. Anyway have a look Bmgalena mabe you will like them on your bike.

    I don't wish to divert this thread, but on a similar vein - a question on electronic/induction triggered tachometers on an XJ that attach to a spark plug wire- I'm thinking about adding a small one since my stock tach bounces around a lot.

    I see these electronic tachs fairly cheap online, but since we have "lost" spark ignitions, do these need to be set at 2 cylinder/4 stroke settings to work properly?

    @cgutz If it states that it is compatible with a 2 cycle engine it will work. 2 cycles spark every revolution like the XJ engines do. Even one set to 2 cylinder/4 stroke might not work without knowing how the settings are interpreted.

    I recently purchased a 2.5" Black Mini Speedometer w/ Black Face & LED Indicator Lights and a 2.5" Black Mini Electronic Tachometer - (Black Face) from Dime City Cycles for my 82 xj650. They work great and were fairly easy to install.

    This is kind of a problem that's hard to get around. The ones that list their options are usually unclear about what exactly those options mean.

    Lost spark ignitions are very common, though, so it's probably a safe assumption that it'll work... but ultimately, it comes down to needing to test. My experience looking personally has been that practically no tachs specify "2 cycle" as an option, it's usually 1, 2, or 4 cylinders.

    I assume ( ASSUME ) that in the 1/2/4 case, it's actually:

    1) 1 spark per 4 revolutions
    2) 1 spark per 2 revolutions
    4) 1 spark per revolution.

    As otherwise, it doesn't really make a lot of sense. With that said, most of these have poor instructions or none at all, so YMMV

    @Bmgalena

    If you need a simple speedo, I suggest mechanical ones - easy to instal, there are some nice models on the market.
    If you want something more fancy like Daytona Velona for example, you will need a special converter or a magnet assembly - either way it is more expensive and a bit more difficult to instal.

    I have only bad experience with aftermarket tachos that use ignition coil signal. I was helping a friend install one of those Acewell knockoffs from Aliexpress to a BMW K100. After few weeks of wire magic we ended up fitting a external PCB that counts ignition and converts to RPM.
