    I'm creating a custom bike with an '82 XJ550 Seca. Are the pod style carb filters really difficult to tune, or should I stick with the stock airbox to make my life easier?

    While the stock airbox does not have the cool factor...a well tuned bike with the stock airbox will run much better and if your carbs have been to church and are synched correctly you will not have to pull them for a long time. With pods you may have to pull them off to change jets several times. To make life easier stick with the airbox.

    That's what I assumed. Is there a good source for new/repro airbox boots? Mine are knackered. Intakes are fine,

    I got brand spankin new boots from xj4ever as XJ550H stated .... I can pull carbs in 20 min and put carbs back in about 30 min if you pull right bolts and push boots into airbox it is easie peisie . When putting in rear boots silicone spray makes the easy to pull out of airbox .... and keeps them pliable.

    Make your life easier.....stick with the stock airbox....

    Pods = Problems....Period....

    You will just be frustrated with pods and trying to dial in your bike.....

    Once dialed in...these XJ bikes are screaming machines....
