    Hi all,

New member and grateful to everyone for your posts...I have been reading and re-reading to learn all I can from your collective experience and wisdom. THANK YOU!

For general road trips on country roads in Northern California, what tires would you recommend and why? I did a search in the forums and didn't find any particular insights. Perhaps I missed it?

I just bought this beauty and the previous owner put on a new Metzler ME 888 Marathon (100/90 front tire, but the rear tire is the original IRC Road Winner (130/90-16 67H). Both are tubeless.

Since the front tire is new, I am looking to just replace the rear tire for now.

Any ideas, suggestions and recommendations for brands and models would be very much appreciated!

    John

I have front and rear Shinko 230 Tourmaster tires on my 650 Maxim and I really like them. Nice smooth ride, plenty high speed and weight ratings, and like a lot of reviews mention they have lots of grip even on wet pavement

I'd go with a Marathon on the rear to match the front.

Yeah, cross-breeding can occur and some freak of nature may result... next thing you know Cincinnati is eaten up by a giant rubber goop monster. ;)

I run Dunlop 404's. Never tried anything else, mostly because of me being poor. I find them a good balance between safety, cost and durability.

Mixing brands is usually not an issue. The trouble comes from mixing radials and bias ply tires.
