I just purchased a 82 maxim 650. Has been sitting in a barn and not moved in over 6 years. Put it in gear in the stand after getting it running and noticed that gear fluid started leaking from the boot for the drive shaft at the engine side. I can not seam to find anything about a purchasable seal to replace it. I am new to motorcycles and dont know too much about them. Any help would be great

first determine if the oil is motor oil or differential oil. motor oil is transmition oil on these bikes. you can pull that rubber boot back to get a better look, but basically differential oil stinks kind of bad.
put it on the center stand and check the oil level by the rear brake pedal. then take out the bolt on the side of the differential and check the level.
on the top right of all the pages here is a link to all the parts you could ever need

I noticed after posting that it was engine oil coming from the seal on the main drive gear. Will have to see how hard it is to replace. Thank you very much ! This restoration will consist of more issues in sure so you will probably see more of me haha. Thanks for the help ! One other question i do have is my starter seamed to stop working, i crossed the terminal on the relay and the starter still cranks nice ans strong. Would that be the relay that quit then ? Or should i test the switch first and see if maybe thats the issue ?

My advice is to disassemble and clean the starter switch. Then go through all of the electrical connections and clean/ tighten/ die-electric grease them... 30 year wiring.

There are electrical wizards here that will probably give you a more focused answers.

This might be a stupid question, but i looked through the catalog and found the oil seal i need, but im not sure how to purchase it or if thats even posible, and the only number it gives me is HCP7080 which i cant find anything on the internet. Sorry if this is a waste of your time im just struggling to find the seal i need before i tear into it. Thanks
