As the owner of an xj-sidecar combo and a vintage BSA scrambler, it somehow looks, ahh, nope forgot where I was going with this.
It's funny but 20,000 kms of lifetime sidecar riding has ingrained instincts in me how a rig should handle, and the most crucial aspect involves the sidecar to the right of the bike. Just going through the motions in my head is like doing everything left-handed.

Depends on the country - this post isn't up anymore but it's from UK - I rode a bike with sidecar in UK for a while and the sidecar was on the left side - and then I rode one here in US too that had sidecar on the right. I realized that it's actually just a practical and safety thing. You just should have the sidecar on the inside, aka away from on-coming traffic. Basically you don't want a passenger having to get into the sidecar from the road vs the sidewalk (uk pavement) and you certainly don't want to have to put the sidecar in the opposite lane to see if you can overtake a slow moving vehicle like a tractor or a harley.

You just have the person in the sidecar let you know if it's safe to pass or not. As long as they can scream louder than the bike, should a "dead" give-away.

Even being an owner of 2 Harley's I find it funny. Not true with my 110 but funny nonetheless. My wife wouldn't be laughing tho with her 883 sporty
