Hey guys I have a horrible howling noise coming from my speedometer. Is there an easy fix for this or does it involve taking the entire cluster apart? 1982 seca 750 and thanks in advance!!!

It's most likely the cable. Remove, clean (the cable comes out of the sheathe), inspect for wear/cuts, grease, reinstall.

Would this cause the speed to be displayed inaccurately?

What I did to mine was pull cluster out took back off cluster , removed cable from speedo . Removed speedo from cluster ,carefully sprayed down gears and the pinion at back of speedo with PB blaster let it soak and applied silicone grease with a q tip to gears best I could and took a syring with silicone grease and squirted into pinion area . Put it back together and no more howling or noise. Please note DO NOT touch face of speedo or the needle . The needle after 30 years can simpley fall apart. To preserve the needle I did apply some testors chevy red to the speedo and tach needles turned out good , but was careful and only uesd brush to touch. Reason not to touch face is finger prints are very hard and annoying to look at after reassembly. What happens to speedo is pinion bearings dry out relubing this should cure it at least for awhile it has on mine. Good luck

Noise wasn't there after removing cable.. Speed was accurate just the horrible noise. Thanks for the disassemble and lube reccommendation!!! Sounds just like a small howling pinion with no lube. Thanks all for the advise!!!!

No. The only thing you'll see on the speedo with a poorly-lubed cable is a jumpy needle.
Innacuracy is down to the magnet needing to be recalibrated.
