found a puddle of fork oil on the floor coming from the rh fork so it looks like I will need to replace the seals. I haven't found a manual as yet and I am wondering if anyone can direct me to a link to an free online manual I can download, or is there a how to in this forum.

Is it a Maxim or a Seca?
The Seca forks require a bit of maintenance, and have some special parts that have to be taken into account when changing the fork seals.
Doing the 750 Seca's Forks.. (Rebuild.. now a HOW TO!)

If you have a Seca, I recommend a full teardown and cleaning (including the anti-dive system), along wih checking to be sure that the leak is from the fork seals (likely) and not an o-ring on the anti-dive (less likely).

Thanks guys its a xj750 seca, the oil came out the top of the rh fork tube. I had only seen my mechanic (80km round trip) to get some other work done and he noted the weep from that fork tube saying that it would probably need looking at some stage. After I had parked the bike several days later I noticed a puddle on the floor ,I didn't think I would loose this much oil so quickly from worn seals.
thanks XJ550H for the links to the manuals

Fork oil will only come out of the seals when the forks move (compress and extend). That stain is from some other source.

the photo on left is what is shown in the rebuild link, also matches assembly drawing with a plastic cap to cover it

Seca Forks are easy to rebuild , did mine in a couple of hours ... think seals were originals , now no more leaks and feels so much better when you push on forks.

Thanks , seen the link on rebuilding xj750 seca forks, just wondering why the hex drive in the top of the rh fork, does it need to be unscrewed? or is it just another push in cap. Some p/o dropped the bike on the rh side and now I am thinking is this is a fork tube from a different model?
