    hi everyone.

I’ve been notified by the motorbike shop that the TCI in my 1981 XJ550 is faulty. They have tried to source a new one and going to cost around $900. My question is where can I get one of these? Is anyone selling one?

^^^+1 With these older bikes you do have to roll the dice sometimes and just buy some used parts and hope they will work. Not worth having the local dealer put the screws to you. Bring her home, do some ebay research and go from there.

$900.. tell em to get f'd. You will get a used one posted from the US for far less than that, or you could try in NZ for well less than 900

At a hundred bucks a pop, you could try 9 used ones for the stealership price, and probably wind up with 7 or 8 spares...

I have a few different Yamaha ignition boxes here. Post a pic of old one and I'll see if I have one.

I have no trouble believing a new one would cost that.
I bought a used one for the bike I got that missing it.

How did they determine that the TCI is at fault?
Though it does occur, TCI failure is pretty rare, and most often due to capacitor leakage (which are fairly easy to replace, and cheap).
