I saw this part on ebay, for sale by Wisonsin Cycle Salvage. I emailed them about it, because I wanted it, but I thought they were asking too much for it.

They wouldn't move on the price at all, but told me they had rusty ones for cheaper. I asked how much and what condition.. they told me very rusty, and the price wasn't much cheaper than the clean one.

So, I emailed them back, stating I thought they were asking too much for it. The email I got back said "Clowns like you waste our time."

I never attacked them, only the price they were asking for the product! And they go and make a personal attack, on a potential customer! I even said "no thank you" when I replied, being polite to them!

I would hope that anyone reading this, would decide to stay away from these guys. Customers clearly aren't on the top of their list.

Respectfully, it sounds like you may have pushed it a little far with them.

They are entitled to charge whatever they want, and it seems like you can not accept that.

If they are charging too much they won't ever sell anything.
    That problem is self curing.
They go out of business or lower their prices.

Their job description should not include having to tolerate repetitive complaints from you.

Sadly, most folks are not worried about pleasing all of their potential customers, it would be impossible and unrealistic. FloridaBiker is spot on from a business's perspective and the cure for their price gouging. It is a pitty that they couldn't have let you down a little more gently but they are not in the business to spend time dickering with folks over their prices. It sounds to me that they let you know what kind of business they are with their reply about the rusty parts. Let this one go and take the lesson it provides. Move on, odds are very much in your favor that you will find the right part elsewhere for a reasonable price. Don't you waste your time twiddling with some idgit over his over-priced parts. If they don't take your counter offer, pass on, there are more fish in the sea.

I had a similar experience with those thieves. I bought a seat that looked good in the photo, but was broken when it arrived. The broken part was pretty cleverly hidden in a shadow in the photo. When I complained I was told to go pound sand.

You can run a business any way you want to but if you treat people badly they tell other people. Who tell other people. I threw the seat in the garbage rather than deal with those guys any more. Buy from them if you have to, but keep your eyes open. WIDE open.

Salvage dealers are a rung below used car salesmen. A HUGE rung. They lie so often they don't know the difference from truth and honesty.

That's been my experience with them.

Actually, I wouldnt attack all used parts salesmen. I have a cycle salvage yard/repair shop that I have been going to for a few months, I will go there probably tomorrow or the next day once I find out what size shims I need. So far no complaints, they have been more than fair priced and very courteous and customer oriented. Used oil cooler/plate: #30 An oil cap bolt (too small ha ha) $5 Plug under YICS cover: $5 Cost for sifting through their decently large selection of XJ salvage parts: $4

I have gotten a few other things done from them and no complaints so far.

Now as to auto mechanics.... So far I have been screwed by a different shop pretty badly. "Rebuilt" my carbs and didnt even know where the main air jets were located!

They operate on supply and demand.
They know you want or need what they have.
They also know how rare some of their parts are; so they price accordingly.

    Sometimes they negotiate.
Other times they tell you to take a hike.
Sometimes they can actually be nice.

More often than not it's like a Mongoose and a Cobra!

"I'm sorry, but that's the bottom line price" would have been sufficient and would keep me doing business with someone.

Telling the customer "you're wasting my time" is a BS way to run a business. A good word travels fast, but a bad one travels much faster... Although I guess if success is not your #1 goal, then that approach may be ok too.

My uncle has delt with Wi cycle Salvage on several occasions, he said they do charge way to much for everything, for those in the Milwaukee area, try Milwaukee cycle salvage, had to get a mast cyl from them, and so far it works great, they tested it and looks like cleaned it up

One big difference there, though, is that you showed up in person. The Wisconsin Salvage part is for sale on eBay, which is completely different.

While I agree that Speedwagon was asking for something that they weren't likely to be receptive to, the WCS guys shouldn't be a bit surprised by it. That's business. You don't like the price, you make someone an offer. They didn't have to be punks about saying, "No." If they didn't feel like being nice, they didn't have to respond AT ALL.

As it is, the WCS jerks come across as jerks - especially in light of Bunda's experience - and lose customers forever.

Put another way, they forgot the following Rule of Business:

"Never forget that the toes that you step on today may be connected to the butt you have to kiss tomorrow."

    ;)

Actually, if you think about it, they pretty much screwed themselves royally. How many potential customers have they lost? I know me and probably everyone who reads this post. I would never go there from reading this stuff about how they do business and treat their customers.

Kind of like how I give M & C Motorcycle shop a bad rep for how they did me, its in Long Beach Ca, dont go there if you care about your personal safety and your bike running good! They are horrible.

I was just stating that not all used parts salesmen are bad... I like the guys I go to! One thing that you should keep in mind that they are on E-Bay, they are trying to get as much money as possible for their parts. I much prefer Amazon.com or other online stores with consistent set prices.

"I went to this party... and this English dude kept saying 'I say... I say...' ...and then he didn't say nothin'!" -- Bill Cosby

...and what happened to a 'Yankee' being anybody north of the Mason-Dixon line?

I don't stand much on political correctness, so Yankees it is.

Also, let's not forget what they say about the difference between Yankees and Damn Yankees:

    Yankees go home. :)
