    Did I see right? 9" shocks? Where'd you find those? Shortest I've seen has been just south of 11"!

    Hows the suicide shifter workin out? I really like that.

    I'm not so sure about the giant faring on a chopper... I'm assuming you're taking that off?

    I think that right hand shifter is something you are not going to like once you get that bike out in traffic.

    Personally, I would be very uncomfortable having to eother take my hand off the throttles or reach across the front of me to shift gears.

    That arrangement is not going to be any fun in the turns. And, I think it would be a detriment having it like that when you NEED to get the gears shifted down in a hurry.

    I've been racking my noggin' tryin' to come-up with some good idea of why you did it like that ... and I can't.

    I'll bet you abandon that arrangement after riding around some.

    I'm sure it's going to look very cool.
    I'm also sure it's going to be a major flaw that you will go back to the drawing board on ... not too very long after you get all balled-up trying to keep-up with a riding party.

    I don't like that right-hand shifter even a little bit and I'm pretty sure if you have to have the bike inspected ... the inspector won't either.

    No offense to your talent and skilled work to make that.
    It just doesn't work for me.

    I really like your idea for the pipes. I have been thinking about a similar idea. I don't like the right hand suicide. It feels like it wasn't thought thru very well. My buddy and I have been working out the logistics of making suicide shiftersfor our bikes and it seems the best solution is to either relocate the clutch lever onto your shifter or mock up a foot operated clutch. Your right handed set up seems like a great way to keep anybody else from riding your bike. Thats about it. I like the direction you are going with the project though. Good luck.

    Rick, you may be completely correct after I take this thing out for a test ride, but for now, I like the look and the fact that I was able to come up with the idea and make it come to life.
    I abandoned the idea of organized group rides when I started cutting and welding. This is going to me my toy to putt around town with!

    I did the shifter on the right for two reasons: 1) I don't use the throttle when I shift to begin with. 2) there are few people who set it up this way(maybe because of performance issues) but I dont want th have a run of the mill looking motorcycle.

    Yes those shocks are just a hair over 9", which brought the a$$ end down about 3.5". I dismantled the stock shocks, cut the springs, bottomed the piston out completely and welded my way to a set of struts that look like a short set of factory shocks, it is essentialy a hard tail now.

    -Keep the opinions coming, my mind is open (not empty)!!!!!

    Looks like you have some cool ideas there! Must say I'm not a fan of those shifters, but you will be really unique with it on the right. I attempted to drive a chopper with one on the left, and that was quite the deal. I made it to 20 mph before I stopped. It was new and I didn't want to wreck my friends bike. I don't care for the tank style you have right now. The maxim tank seems to fit a little better on what you are doing. I hate the exhaust mock up, but that's just my opinion. I'm doing many of the same things you are to my 550 maxim. We will have to swap photos when we are done. I'm anxious to see what the Seca looks like all chopped up vs a maxim. I'm in the process of engineering a system to make it so I can fit MUCH wider back tire. I doubt I will do it this year, but it should be a ton easier with the chain drive I have. Love the seat! That thing looks awesome!! I'm interested im what you will do in the front. Keep up posted! Again these are just my opinions. I'm glad you take no offense in them. The joy of owning your own bike is the only person you need to please is yourself. Way to go in taking some risks! I respect that!

    That exhaust is gnarly!

    I like the look of the suicide shift a lot, but I agree that it might not be the most comfortable thing riding. I contemplated one on the left side and relocating a clutch onto the shift handle, but I figured by the time I did all that it'd look really messy with cables and such so I'm opting out of that idea.

    I assume you're losing the fairing?

    No decisions made on the fairing yet. My guess would be yes, I'm thinking about raking the neck so....

    I imgine you could sell your fairing and fund most of this project. I'm gonna just throw it out there... You're chopping a seca. Not a chance in hell of your bike ever looking run of the mill. Keep doing what you're doing. I stared at your pics and then pics of my bike for hours last night. Just when I thought I was done cutting and such but you've inspired me. I think I'm gonna change my read end setup this winter now.

    I've Like the right hand suicide shift, I've thought about it too, and came up with much the same design, except (and because my bike is a 650) with a little different shift set up. I'm leaving the foot shifter on, and attaching the suicide linkage to the back of the shift lever. This way I still have all the function of my bike with the suicide shift added for fun. The right side just makes more sense to me, Foot clutches are suicide, and a left hand shift with a hand clutch just gets messy, plus I lose the mobility of shifting and throttle and corners, like rick said

    BTW how is the throw on th shifter? is it very long, That was my main concern

    I haven't measured it, but if I was to guess the throw is about 3.5 - 4" right now. I need to change the pivot rod to a larger diameter so there is less strech (right now it is 5/16", I think it needs to be at least 3/8 for rigidity.

    Rick, I'd love for you to come down and finally meet you, although I might be afraid of the verbal lashing I get for the bike!!

    No, seriously I'll be around all weekend but I might be out running the wood splitter on Saturday

    I saw the same fairing on Ebay not so long ago and I don't think the guy got $45.00 for it (maybe shipping is too much). I'm only into it for about $70 so far.
    Good luck on the rear end, I just did some more to mine yesterday eve. I extended the frame rails under the seat with some welded 3/8" link chain. (pics soon)

    Well forget that idea then. I like the chain link idea. I always look forwardto new pics and I'll post some of mine too if I ever get the ball rolling. I feel like I have a dozen half-finished projects all the time. So tiring.

    Now I don't know what those pipes sound like, but they are pointing awfully close to your ears... Could be an ear plug only ride????

    I'm busy pulling my 900 apart so I will be watching with interest. Engine is coming out to fix a few things including a jammed starter clutch so my little project is fast becoming a big one.

    Looking good. Keep it up....

    I like the idea of upswept pipes - it's an old school look that caught my eye years back. It would be nice to find some chrome pipes to fit over the exhaust outlet with radius bends to lift the rear portion upward.
    I got the idea to slip on 3 ft. pipes onto the end of each muffler to see if it changed the sound at all (incase I get a wild hair to extend my pipes) and it didn't make any difference except the sound was further back and a bit quieter. ...ain't it fun to fabricate!!! >PD<
