    Hi guys!
Have a question..my mechanic said that oil pump is dead, after he disasambled my engine. Said that there is a big gap in this...lets say “metal pieces”. Photos attached. Does anyone know from where are they exactly and specifically what parts should I order now.
    Thank you

IMG_1950.JPG On that 3rd photo small grooves in this area indicate pump has been swallowing metal bits. Poor services history or incorrectly installed filter will allow this to happen.
Talk to Chacal @ Xj4ever about replacement parts. He will know if they are available as Yamaha no longer sells them.

I want to know the response to this question.I am about to rebuild my 82 650 maxim. If i cant get a new oil pump, ever, then its too risky to put it back together and no need to take it apart.I dont know what the liklihood of an oil pump failing is.I would like to know more about this poster's bike.like mileage, overall condition, frequency of oil change and so forth.

Did the mechanic perform a volume and pressure test on the pump, and provide you with clearance measurements between the gear lobes, or is he just going by the scratch on that one lobe?

It all began after dissably of the lower part of the engine to change upper chain guide..after few days I heard a knocking sound from the engine. And thats when I decided disassemble it completely to see whats goin on. Seems that oil pump has died with all the consequences. Oil was Motul 10w40.
So I think it is more cheaper to buy a new engine than repair this.

I wasn’t present there. He told me this via phone.
That it could cause all the trouble. I believe he did not mesure anything
