    Hello All,

I have a 1997 XJ600. I was hoping to get some input on the 2 small problems I have.

    1) It takes at least 15 mins to warm, sometimes 25mins.

    2) During that time, If I hit the throttle, If I try to turn the choke off, If I put it in gear and try to drive then it will bog down and die. If I do get it moving by feathering the throttle then it will sputter in 1st gear for about a mile.

After its warm, it runs like a champ. Any ideas what this might be? Ive tried the seafoam treatment in the gas tank to start. I have replaced the plugs..

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you

    Phillip

Yep your carbs need cleaned for starters , if carbs are original from factory bike was jetted to meet emissions so was jetted lean which also leads to a hotter running engine going up 1 to 2 sizes usually help at cost of fuel mileage being lower . You could try a "HOT SHOT" pull fuel line drain float bowls take a syring full of carb cleaner and acetone inject it into line till bowls are full ...let soak for about 20 minutes. Reconnect fuel line drain bowls refill with fuel from the petcock and start up see if it helps.

I agree that the carbs need attention. Hope the above works for you, but I’m betting you will have to remove the carbs. Sounds to me like the pilot circuit needs close attention.

Sounds like it’s running a bit too lean. If it’s is running and idling well when warmed up it may just need color tuning. I had exactly the same symptoms but had clean carbs. Colortune fixed it up nicely.
