    Hello,
My 81 xj 650 maxim is currently down. I have another post on that matter here: https://xjbikes.com/forums/threads/xj-650-maxim-sputtering-on-acceleration.119368/ like to do everything the hard way so I usually only read about 75% of the instructions. It worked in college but hey I'm learning.

Anyways while trying to chase down a possible vacuum leak I went back to In the church of clean and really wanted to get it right this time. So I got an ultrasonic cleaner. Googled around for "motorcycle carb cleaning ultrasonic cleaner" and seen people using simple green. So without reading all of the information available, I determined that simple green was safe and bought a gallon. I then set my first carb in an undiluted solution and set it for 2 hours.

The finish of the carb has now changed to a dull oxidized look. I am unsure if I have damaged it or if it will be ok. After more digging after the fact that simple green will work in an ultrasonic however just set it for a few minutes.

Has anyone else had this happen and did it affect the carb at all? Slides in particular? There is a pic for comparison

now use the ultrasonic cleaner to get all the simple green out. just wipe the slide bore out, don't try to make it shine again. i don't think you killed it, but you didn't do it any good.
did you take the seals out?
