I have just purchased a 1982 xj650 and I need to change the tires out. I have the new tire my question is do I have to remove the drive shaft to get the rim and tire off? This is my first bike and want to make sure I do everything right. Look forward to the tips and advise thank you.

I just did this the other night. I didn't need to take anything but the tire off. Make sure you warm it up and put the arrow in the right direction.

Pinch bolt, axle nut, brake stay rod, brake linkage. Slide axle out, once out, slide wheel to right side out of the final drive

Airing the tire down before you pull the wheel off of the bike helps it to come out past the fender more easily. Room is tight back there.
