    Hey all,

I’m wondering if there’s any reason why my engine emits a high pitch hum when I open the throttle? I’d love to get to the bottom of this and have a nice healthy growl. Thanks!

Sound is difficult to diagnose without being able to hear it.
Please post a video. Make it about a minute long, start at idle, and open the throttle just as if you were going to pull away (no rev, rev, reving).

The XJ series is known for a distinctive whirring/whistle sound due to the design of the alternator drive. That's probably what you're hearing.

Even in print this ‘sounds’ (that ones for you @Polock) like you’re on to it @k-moe. I’ll post something asap. Thanks guys!

Yup, as stated a well running XJ, of any capacity, will 'whistle/hum' at speed.....
