Ok so I put my 84 XJ900 on the road recently with new aftermarket coils and now when I ride its sluggish and when I touch the headers, 1 & 3 burn but 2 & 4 are relatively cold.

The coils weren't a straight swap, I had to make up a couple of small brackets and short wires to connect them, but they did go in relatively easily and have worked ok for a couple of months (I did notice No.2 pipe was cold last week so put new iridium plugs in it).

Any ideas before I take it to a mechanic?

    Thanks

My experience with iridium plugs in motorcycle is not good , put a pair in my virago the tip melted off . Switched to Autolite AP63 and it ran great . Today my 2011 chevy Hhr had a bad miss fire and the traction control was showing service ESC . Pulled plugs number 4 electrode melted off these were NGK , stock were AC delco switched back so far so good . Not the best pictures but I would suggest switching to standard copper core plug and see if your bike runs better.

I switched back to the original plugs and No. 4 is now firing... Looking a lot like N0. 2 is a dodgy coil... Have to test it

    Thanks guys

Swap that #4 plug to #2 and see if the problem follows the plug.
If not, then unscrew the plug cap and trim the lead back a bit, then reinstall (check the cap resistance at the same time). Also check that the plug wire if firmly connected at the coil.
If the coil fires #3, then the coil itself is not the problem.
