cost of parts bike

I have the 81 650 running, and 82 parts bike.I found another complete81 that hasn't been running for several years but is complete.How much would that be worth.No title.

 

A quick look can tell you the story.
Stock exhaust, good $200+
Carbs $150,right side cover $75
And so on.
title may be a non issue if the spare parts are far more valuable to you.

Steak 10. A pound
Ground chuck 3$ a pound
Used bike not running and no title no more than $1 a pound.
Good deal would be .50 cents

 

150-200$ is what I’ve given in the past for parts bikes non running. Idc about titles with them but it does add value
This is of course relative to my “rust belt” geographic location
Something is worth what someone is willing to pay
Any parts u specifically need? Check eBay for cost and then offer that amount for the whole thing as the rest is going to be on a shelf as a “just in case” part anyway and doesn’t hold much value

 

I found a sidecover finally for the right side recently for $65.00. I was thinking purely parts.My parts bike was my original plan to be a daily rider.I paid 400.Then by the time I got an ignition switch,right handlebar switches and start button, a head ,then cams,then gasket set,then header gaskets,front brake rebuild kit, used master cylinder I still had no carbs.I decided after having near $1000 in it to buy the 81 that runs great but needed many of the parts on the now parts bike.With old bikes I have found it wise to snap up a parts bike because buying a piece at a time cost many times over more money.If I could get this other one for $400 I would be happy.

 

This one ? Guy is aiming high at $1000

 

I paid about that for my running, well taken care of 81 (photo in avatar) with 37k on the odometer. It even had the original manual and toolkit tucked neatly under the seat. Although I've purchased the fuse upgrade kit, even the original fuse block was in near new condition. Praise God for garage kept bikes.

As per “toomanybikes” and his pricing chart it’ll be $509.30. I still say 1$ per lb is too much. Go with .60 per lb or $305.58

 

I pay $100 to 300$ for my parts bikes , 3 to 4 hours later they are up and running so much for parts bikes now I have to find another parts bike.
I do admit having spare sets of carbs on the shelf helps a lot. buy a rack in the off season cheap and rebuild them find a bike to put them on.

 

does me little good to hear you guys brag about what good deals you got.Happy for you.I am not going to buy this guys bike even for 400.

The buy is all about being able to walk away. sent an email to one guy who wanted 500$ told him i would give him a standing offer of 100$ he called me 3 weeks later

 

very good point. walk away.if it doesnt sell in a few days his price will come down. If someone is dumb enough to give his price so be it. And I wasnt ragging on people, it sounded like it.its more like i was saying I hate you guys for telling me about your amazing finds, why didnt it happen to me.

 

xj550,just curious.I have thought about finding and buying a 550 before.I have the 650 and love the potential.But the 550, is it about the same power and weight? I am thinking only the bore is different so statistics and specs would be about the same.last question have you ever toured on yours?

 

I paid around £100 for both my xjs, technically parts bikes, but I'm enjoying the process if not the cost of rebuilding them.
There is an irs trike on ebay which has a grenaded xj750, he wants too much for it, but I am tempted to make an offer...

 

650 and 750 have more in common, they even have the same manual. The 550 has many differences, such as chain drive vs shaft on 650/750.

 

If it has a Title in New Mexico, doesn't run but has all parts I offer 350 - 400 depending on mileage and whether
I can rotate the engine by hand and no chunks of metal in the oil. All the ads on CL go high but will go lower for cash in hand.

never answered this the 550 maxxim is 47 pounds lighter motor is a 523cc. having 6 speeds makes all the differance . 550maxim is a little more cramped to ride due to seat. rode 300 miles one day and I felt it.
550 does share parts with 650 controls, speedo headlight bucket. the 750 also used some of the 650 parts as well as the motors being swapable in the frames

I find the 650 more comfortable to ride

I would finish the 650 before going on to another bike
