I have my 81 that starts at the touch of the button.I was rebuilding the front caliper and have something wrong.I am going to take it apart and do it right.I bought the rebuld kit and new piston from chacal and ebay. The bike was a driver till i got it.It had sat for about 4 months.the front brake did absolutely nothing as i was loading it.I have changed disc pads many times but this was more.the piston was stuck tight.I used a grease gun and got it out. I have an 82 that was going to be the rider but i spent a ton of money and gave up>the 81 starts easy, I even rode it in the neighborhood, with no brakes.dumb but i had to see if it ran and shifted, etc. Since I got the 2 bikes and before i gave up on the 82 I bought a complete engine rebuild kit, head nuts, various nuts and bolts from chacal. I bought 2 sidecovers.the right sidecover looks brand new.the left is from ebay and needs painted of course.
I used the headlight i bought off ebay.It works fine.I have a new front tire.zero miles on it.The rear brake does not work, i was going to fix that when I replaced the rear tire. I was going to take the signal lights from the 82,put them on the 81 since it had none. I dented in the 81 tank a little where the name badge goes when it fell over in the trailer.I have the 82 tank, it has a deep dent in the right front top portion.

I just got 2 gold YAMAHA badges from china.they arent held on with screws, they stick on.I have the stock seat plus one the kid had cut way down on the 81, he was going to try to make a cafe bike out of it.I have a head and cams never installed I got off ebay for the original project the 82.I got a new ignition switch and right handlebar switch on the 82,never used.I took the mastercylinder off the 82 and put it on the 81.I destroyed the 81 mc when i tried drilling out a screw. I have a title for the 81,I have not changed it into my name yet.
all totalI have $2100 in the 2 of them. I would take 1200 for it all right now.I live in denton texas, near dallas. My plan is to buy something off a lot, near new with warranty.I just turned 69 and am tired of messing with this.Or I may just do without a bike for some period of time.my home email is ronbayless57@gmail.com

disregard. I got down when I saw people writing about having to dremel out the gears, all that stuff. That is way over my head. I never want to have to turn a bike upside down, take a cover off, try to get rows of gears to plop into place, all that stuff. I cant do that. I can replace head gaskets,a head or cam itself, clutches, etc. But I cant rebuild a transmission. But apparently it happens a lot in the 1100 but not often in the 650 like mine. What I want is a bulletproof motor. I thought the xj was in that category.st 1100,st 1300, Goldwing motors, only a small handful of motors fit that description. The Suzuki gs series-their only failure is the stators. The gears and crank are pretty much indestructible. But wings are too heavy. I want my little 650. its cool looking. It sounds great, just cant ride it yet.
